Skyler Greenway
What would someone like Cord be without someone like Skyler? Lonesome, friendless, fallen into a pit of despair? Well, actually, none of those things because Cord doesn’t give a rat’s ass about male friends. Yet that’s all he has — one slow-on-the-uptake, highly impressionable male friend. A friend who, for some reason, thinks that Cord is the most happenin’ guy on the planet, a slick player who has ladies lined up for miles to experience the most unforgettable three seconds of their lives. Since Cord is inclined to agree, he sees a fair amount of benefit in keeping Skyler around — if not for the inflation of his already massive ego, for the willing stooge Skyler makes whenever he needs a fall guy, and for the cash and credit cards Skyler happily swipes from his parents’ wallets upon Cord’s request.
How did Skyler become so close to Cord in the first place? Love at first sight. Alicia Avalon captured Skyler’s heart on her first day at North Los Angeles High. Unlike Cord, he recognizes Alicia’s extreme brilliance in addition to her physical beauty and is somewhat intimidated by her on account of his own lackluster intelligence and his complete social ineptitude. Seeing Cord frequently interact with Alicia, he incorrectly assumes that Cord is her only male friend and requests his assistance in wooing the brilliant Ms. Avalon. It’s been some time since Skyler really had any friends, so he doesn’t see the ill-mannered social pariah or selfish cad that Cord truly is, and is delighted when Cord (after eventually seeing the benefits of the relationship) seems to accept his presence in his airspace… when he feels like it. And all Skyler has to sacrifice for the sake of the “friendship” is his parents’ trust, his originally clean criminal record, and the guarantee that if (or WHEN, he believes) Alicia becomes his girlfriend, Cord can bone her whenever he wants. Because that’s what friends are for. |
